How does Ted's Health work alongside my GP?

If you feel something is wrong with your health, your GP should always be your first port of call. The NHS is a resource we’re all proud and grateful to have access to here in the UK.
Rather than thinking of us as an alternative, think of Ted’s Health as an extra layer to your healthcare and wellbeing.
Whether you suspect you have low testosterone levels, or are experiencing erectile dysfunction, here are a few reasons why our patients come to us for testing and treatment.
You’ll see the same doctor every time
For many of us, going to the GP means meeting someone new for the first time; gone are the days of having ‘a’ doctor, someone who would come to know you, and your medical history, inside out. If we have an ongoing health challenge, every short GP appointment requires us to start by going back to the beginning.
At Ted’s, you see the same clinician for every appointment. Not only does this person build a rich understanding of your symptoms and history, but it means you don’t need to start every appointment summarising what got you to this point.
We know this is important to lots of men, especially when they might be discussing symptoms that aren’t easy to talk about. 62% of men say they have either left or wanted to leave their healthcare practitioner because of a lack of personal connection, and seeing the same doctor at Ted’s gives you both a real chance to build this.
You want to feel better than ‘fine’
You go to the GP because something is wrong, or you’re not feeling 100%. But many men don’t come to us because they feel less than 100% – they just want to understand if they can get to 110%, or beyond.
They want to see if small optimisations to their health will translate to a positive impact in their day-to-day life; from lifting heavier weights, to having better sex, or staying more focused at work.
Our goal for all our patients is to achieve a level of health and well-being that goes beyond ‘fine’; we want them to unlock their very best selves.
That’s why our blood test takes a holistic look at your health – from your cholesterol, to your free and total testosterone levels, kidney function, prostate health, and more. No part of your health operates in isolation, which is why we like to explore it from all angles.
Consultations are more comfortable and convenient
Fitting ad hoc medical appointments into your life is a pain. They can be tricky to book in advance, and many practices aren’t open on the weekends or into the evening, meaning you need to take time out of your working day – often with little notice.
With Ted’s, you can easily book appointments according to your schedule. Consultations take place over video call, so you can take them in the comfort and privacy of your own home – no waiting rooms needed.
You’ll see specialists in men’s health and hormone health

GPs have incredibly broad medical knowledge and experience. And it’s just as well; their day can involve treating everything from chest infections to shoulder pain, as well as picking up on more sinister symptom patterns for referral.
Ted’s doctors are also licensed medical professionals, but are specialists in men’s health and hormone health specifically. Dealing with similar cases every day means they’re highly skilled at understanding, diagnosing and treating them.
They also work closely with our medical advisory board, who are specialists in different elements of men’s health, to ensure we’re always working to the latest research and making the most of the latest innovations.
Not all treatment requires a consultation or prescription
Erectile dysfunction medication doesn’t require a prescription and is available over the counter in pharmacies or online via Ted’s Health. We just need you to take our short assessment before we can recommend a tailored treatment based on your individual requirements.
Our medical team will review the answers before your medication is dispatched to check it’s the right fit, but there’s no need for a face-to-face consultation unless you’d like to dig deeper.
You get answers quickly, no matter your circumstances
There are many reasons why accessing GP appointments might not be simple: maybe your GP practice is oversubscribed, maybe you’re not a UK citizen and it’s leading to extra red tape, or perhaps you find it difficult to leave home (although some practices do offer phone calls).
Or maybe you’ve moved house and just haven’t registered with your new practice yet (we’ve all been there).
We designed Ted’s to be easy and efficient at every turn, making healthcare accessible for all men, and fast – whether you’re looking to check your testosterone levels, or find an ED treatment.
Your treatment may be covered by private insurance
If you have private health insurance, your blood test and consultation, plus any ongoing treatment, may be covered as part of your plan. This depends on your plan and your provider, and it’s important to check with them directly before assuming you’re covered.
We can work with your GP (if you want us to)
The bottom line is we’re not here to replace your GP – we’re just here to add another layer to your existing healthcare.
At your request, we’re happy to share your blood test results and our notes with your GP, and we’re always happy to receive information from previous tests and medical incidents from them, too.
This all helps both sides build a clearer picture of your health and the best way forward. When you’re healthy, we’re happy.
